Pawan Kalyan’s comments on the diarrhea deaths in Guntur city appear to have a very significant political sub-text. Pawan said that the government had failed to respond on time and prevent deaths due to water contamination. He has also said that the health ministry appears to have been paralysed.
Interestingly, AP does not have a health minister. Kamineni Srinivas, health minister till recently, has resigned. He was known to keep a close watch on health conditions in the state and used to respond quickly in times of crisis.
It is suspected that he had leaked information about lacunae in the health and medical department to Pawan Kalyan and the Jana Sena chief is using it to great effect. There is also a buzz that Kamineni may even join Pawan’s Jana Sena and contest elections in 2019. All these may prove a big headqache for the ruling TDP.
